This former mill building, located in the heart of Bushmills alongside the River Bush, had fallen into neglect and was left to deteriorate until a new owner took on the challenge of breathing new life and purpose into the structure and chose Scott Architects as the right people for the job.

Spread across four levels, the original internal floor area exceeded the requirements of the proposed brief. To enhance the sense of space, half of the top floor was removed, creating a large vaulted ceiling with exposed feature beams. The building’s thermal envelope has been upgraded to meet current standards, with the exception of the basement, which sits alongside the river and has been designed to withstand the natural rise and fall of the River Bush.
